I'm working on building this piece of furniture in the living room, and now we're going to buy and cut the boards that will be placed inside to the right of the cabinets where we plan to insert some open shelves. But what type of board should be placed on the back wall? I'm thinking something thin.

Masonite of a slightly thicker model works well and is often used as the back of store-bought furniture. The downside is that it is difficult to paint nicely. Therefore, it might be better with a thin plywood. I believe the thinnest is 6mm.
