I would like to build in the stairs but have heard that these solutions can become problematic over time as the house settles, often resulting in noise. Is that true?
It's a perfect storage solution, as the space under the stairs is often unused. Placing lanterns underneath is not storage Lulu Carter ;-)

Pros and cons of this? The only disadvantage I can see is that it becomes a bit darker and may feel a little "cramped".

I want to know too! :p

What does the staircase look like, straight or curved/L-shaped?

Mine is curved, U-shaped with open steps, meaning open at the back.

We are going to build new so we can choose if it should be L-shaped or U. Everything is supposed to be so open and "spacious" ;-) nowadays, much of the practical goes away..which can be irritating when trying to keep things tidy at the same time... Anyone?
