Should I use it?
Previously wrote about a slate floor that my partner and I, against all odds, managed to lay in a satisfactory way.

I wrote that we applied paraffin oil to the floor and it turned out well, for a while at least.

Apparently, oil on stone has a tendency to mysteriously disappear.......... maybe it ends up in the socks? Now the floor looks completely untreated again, and the question is what should we "apply to it now"?
Paraffin oil doesn't work very well as it "disappears." Should we try a floor polish and how will the grout handle it? I want a shimmering, glossy black floor!!

Any suggestions anyone?

Believe in plain honest soap.

Maybe not as shiny, but scratches on the surface are more visible than on wood with a shiny surface. Scratches are more easily seen on harder materials.
It's a lot of work to keep a stone floor shiny all the time with some surface material.

We have slate at the restaurant, and last winter the Steam Cleaning Car was there and cleaned plus polished the floor so that dirt would have a hard time penetrating the tiles.
