The question is, I have bought your house built in 1974, and I have a ceiling throughout the house that I don't recognize, I would like help identifying what kind of ceiling it is. I would like help with an estimate of what it might cost to, for example, replace the ceiling with regular gypsum and spotlights? The ceiling looks like this

  • Ceiling with a vintage chandelier, white wood paneling, and traditional decor in a living room, seeking identification and renovation cost estimation.
Guessing masonite boards or tretex.

Is the reason you want to replace to get a smooth ceiling without seams?

Estimated cost - not worth it :)

It's actually about installing spotlights, but can you do it on top of these boards? The seams don't bother me

If it's a one-story house with an attic above, it's fine to install spotlights without replacing the ceiling.

If it's an intermediate floor, i.e., you have a floor above, embedded spotlights won't work.

If it's an inter-floor structure, i.e., you have a floor above, then recessed spotlights are not possible.
I have a floor above, so you mean it’s not possible? Then you need to tear down the ceiling and install a new one?

It is not possible to have recessed spotlights then.

If you absolutely want spotlights, you don't have to tear down the ceiling. It's enough to install beams and put up a new gypsum ceiling underneath.

surris
Isn't spottar out?🤔
