Hi! My husband and I are helping my mom renovate their newly purchased old house, but we've hit a bit of a mental block, I think. The previous owners installed nice fake beams on the ceiling in the living room that they want to keep.
But after straightening the wall, the distance to the beam is different in depth at the top. There used to be a molding there, and we need to put up some kind of molding now too, but what on earth kind of version can we put up now that it's uneven without it looking completely crazy? 😅

  • Ceiling with decorative dark wood beam and uneven gap at the top; wall renovation with screws visible, and a small window partly shown.
  • Ceiling edge with uneven gap to a wooden faux beam, showing textured wall panels needing a list or trim to cover disparity after straightening the wall.
  • Uneven ceiling beam and adjacent wall with visible gap due to wall straightening; awaiting trim solution for aesthetic improvement.

Should have made sure to cut the plaster neatly against the beam and skip the molding, it looks best that way. Right now it looks so-so but can be filled with putty; the risk is it might crack when there are such large gaps. Wallpaper or fabric over it makes it better.
