What documents can one expect when ordering a load-bearing beam design drawing from a structural engineer? It concerns a new opening in a load-bearing wall. So far, we have received the following:

- Floor plan with the new opening
- Section view of the load-bearing beam showing the steel beam and steel column.

We understand that dimension control must be ordered from an external engineer.

Yes, that sounds completely reasonable.
Are you thinking that you want something more?
The dimensions and lengths should be indicated on the drawing. Also, if you need to do anything more beneath the column/columns. Possibly how large the supports should be depending on what type of wall it is and how the site looks.

The drawing should show dimensions and lengths. Also, whether you need to do anything more under the pillar(s). Possibly how large the bearings should be depending on what kind of wall it is and what the location looks like.
Thanks for the information! It's the first time we're doing a beam support, hence the lack of insight into which parts should be included in such construction drawings (e.g., if calculations should be attached, etc.).

If you have ordered a construction drawing, you should receive a drawing that describes details of the construction including dimensions and quality requirements for materials.

I believe it is the architect's responsibility to hire a structural engineer who provides dimensions and construction solutions if the architect cannot do it themselves. But it all depends on what has been ordered and what has been communicated prior to the order.
