As the title says: What are these called? And where can you buy them? I've searched around but can't find them anywhere. I have built a cushion box that has a rather large and heavy lid. I would need to buy these to help with opening and closing.

(of course not my cushion box in the picture)

I bought on amazon.se last time when I needed new ones for the car. By far the best price, 160 SEK each for Stabilus Lift-o-mat original.

However, you do need to calculate what "strength" you need.

Have never shopped on Amazon. Isn't it kind of the same as wish? Crap stuff?

Here you can only choose either pull or push. I want both. Aren't there any like that?

  • Gas spring 8 kg, available for push or pull options, priced at 119 kr on specialbeslag.se.

No, as mentioned, there are parts of quality brands. It's a mix of high and low on Amazon, but unlike, for example, wish, it's far from just Chinese junk. Also, stick to items that are "fulfilled by Amazon," otherwise, there might be issues. Otherwise, the site itself is pretty useless, but the price and selection are unbeatable.

I don't have a biltema near where I live and they don't have an online shop.

No, a spring can either pull or push. Pushing is normal for a gas spring.

No, they normally push, then the mechanical effect of how the spring is mounted (i.e., how the angle of attack changes) in conjunction with the weight of the lid causes the force to be balanced throughout the movement so that it feels like it both pulls and pushes.

So, it's not just about slapping a couple of gas springs on however you want; otherwise, it won't be possible to close the lid. It's quite complicated, but there's plenty of information on the manufacturers' websites about how the products should be dimensioned and installed.

You can mount the spring so that it helps keep the lid closed. It's about where the attachment is made in relation to the pivot point.

A door brake serves a similar function and is usually available at all major hardware stores. The resistance can be adjusted by turning the designated part.

No, a doorstop makes it even harder to open the lid.
