Hi,

I am planning to transfer the load of a wall. The beam, etc., is ready, but I wonder what is the best method for good contact between the beam and the post? Are wedges recommended and which material should be used in that case?

(Transferring the load of a wall in a 1 1/2 story house, the post will be 90x90 glulam, the beam is an IPE)

Regards,
Fredrik

Reusing the thread!

I have an upper floor on my garage that sways slightly as there is a 6m steel beam in the floor. The idea is to put a sturdy pillar in the middle down in the garage. I plan to use an oak pillar 100*100mm, placing it on a concrete slab that I dig down a bit into the gravel (I don't have a cast floor) inside the garage. But wedges, should they be placed at the bottom by the slab or up near the ceiling/beam?
