Waterproof mortar joint for stone stairs
Hello,
We have issues with water seeping in from our old stone staircase (see images). A roof over the landing would be desirable but is difficult to implement due to the window. I thought I'd start by trying to make the staircase joints tighter. Can anyone recommend a good sealant for the purpose? I also gladly welcome ideas for roofing solutions (that fit the house)...

Is the entire staircase leaking or just the joints?F frekth said:Hello,

Ardex has good products for repairing stairs.
When it comes to sealing, you need a high-quality outdoor movement joint sealant.

You can start by treating the joints with water glass instead, it's both cheaper and significantly less work. Water glass is a product that penetrates and reacts with the lime, creating a hard and essentially waterproof surface.
I just have to add that it's a very beautiful staircase
