I would like to warn about Beijer's pricing on timber right now. Everything is more than twice as expensive as at competitors. When you come home with 4 pieces of 4.2 28x70 and discover that you've paid over 400 SEK, you get quite upset. Sure, the price of timber has gone up, but in my world, something has gone wrong here with the price adjustment. I have tried unsuccessfully to point this out to my local store.

You are comparing c14 in running lengths with c24 in fixed standard lengths.

And yes, there is indeed a price difference with c12 and c24 but still does not explain

I always negotiate prices at Beijer because I know they account for corporate discounts, etc. Not a 50% discount on wood, of course, but enough to make it worth not bothering with Byggmax most of the time. Now, it seems my Byggmax prices are much higher than yours, so that probably also plays a role in why it's this way for me.

My deck frame was built with virtually zero waste, and it would definitely have been more expensive if I had bought it at Byggmax due to all the waste.

With that said, I have refrained from larger constructions this year, so I haven't made any recent comparisons, and it could be completely different now.

It's not wrong to warn so people are aware of what they're paying for, but it's important to understand what you're paying for. For example, I'm happy to pay a little extra for standard lengths for most projects.

My patio frame was built with basically zero waste, and it would have certainly been more expensive if I had bought it at Byggmax due to all the waste.

I agree, and that's why I went to Beijer because I needed 4.2 28x70, and it's uncertain what lengths Byggmax has. It's usually +20%, not 110%.

I thought it was common knowledge that Beijer has outrageously high list prices. However, they offer significant discounts if you request a quote, at least in my experience. When I bought the materials for the garage slab last year, I got about a 40% discount just by asking for a quote (not a previous customer, and a private individual). I believe list prices were 44kkr and I received a quote for 24kkr. Byggmax wanted 27kkr for equivalent items (but probably lower quality).

The downside is that you have to request a quote for every little thing you want to buy (if you want a discount, that is), which can be a bit absurd if you're just planning to buy additional items for a couple of hundred. I received an average discount of 30-50% when I purchased from them last year.

As for lumber from them, I wasn't that impressed. I ordered wall plates from them, 195x45 4.2m long. Half of them were so twisted they should be sold as propellers... I got my money back, but orders for roof battens, trusses, etc., were placed with another company (NP Nilsson).

Noticed it a month ago when I was going to order. Thought it was a bug at the time since the other chains were more in line price-wise, but that wasn't the case. I wonder how they're reasoning or if they've raised the discount prices for contract customers to avoid all the smaller purchases. When I bought some materials from them just over 5 years ago, I got a good discount on most things except the timber where I only got a 10% discount, which they blamed on poor margins.

Price-wise, it ended up roughly the same as the list prices at Byggmax, but Beijer does have a larger range, which is worth something of course.

Most of the time, I can't be bothered to ask for prices anymore; it's more convenient to order things online from the place with the lowest list price. Sometimes, you can even have them pack what you've ordered and go pick it up for free.

The downside is that you have to request a quote for every little thing you want to buy (if you want a discount, that is), which can be a bit silly if you're just doing a supplementary purchase for a couple of hundred. I got an average of 30-50% discount when I shopped with them last year.

Have also had a few propeller boards from Beijer, and it is quite irritating, but at least they can be returned. Byggmax does not accept returns on timber, so if you get a board that twists after you pick it, you have to live with it.

I also agree that it is troublesome with supplementary purchases at Beijer, and often avoid it. If it's not urgent, I order many small items online; if it's urgent, Beijer is the last resort.
