Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has done a similar project in converting a semi-cold crawl space into a closet by opening up the partition wall?

What I've done is tear down a wall (no major beams were found inside). Then set up a frame of 70mm (existing wall insulation is 80mm), filled with insulation and then a vapor barrier. The thing is, the house lacks vapor barriers elsewhere, but I plan to add a vapor barrier in the attic ceiling. The plan now is to continue with MDF boards and open up the vent hole that was on the gable of the crawl space (then ends up in the middle of the closet).
Has anyone succeeded with a similar project? And maybe have some tips in the middle of the project?

Slowly but surely, progress is being made, with a few measurement misses on the drywall (but that will be hidden behind renovation wallpaper anyway). A new gypsum ceiling was also added.

  • Plywood cubbyhole under construction in a room, with visible screws in drywall and decorative wallpaper above; parquet flooring below.
  • New drywall ceiling installation with some measurement issues, to be covered by renovation wallpaper.
And so it was done, or for the time being. In the long run, there should probably be some form of door for the wardrobe and ceiling moldings. The electrician will take care of the ceiling light socket including the grounded cable.

  • A nursery corner with a white crib, canopy, a stuffed bunny toy, pink walls, and an unfinished ceiling light fixture.
  • Open closet with hanging clothes, a white curtain, and storage bins; a baby nest is placed inside. No door or ceiling moldings yet.
A few more pictures before it was finished

  • Open closet with hanging rod and shelves with mesh baskets, unfinished around the edges, wooden parquet floor visible.
  • A built-in closet structure with shelves in progress, against a pink wall with parquet flooring.
  • A partially finished alcove under a slanted ceiling with floral wallpaper, surrounded by tools and painting supplies on the floor.

Now, this was a while ago, but I'll give it a try!
I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing, but in a somewhat larger attic space. So large that I (1) only plan to use half of the space, (2) one will be able to take 1-2 steps into the attic space (the floor might need to be reinforced).

Do you have any tips or lessons from your build?
