hello

I am working on a renovation where I need to frame a wall against a masonry chimney. I have heard and read that load-bearing construction and combustible material must not be placed directly against the chimney. However, to achieve stability in the wall, I would need to anchor and frame it against the chimney. Can I use steel studs when framing? Is it allowed to be placed directly against the chimney?

Best regards, David

Combustible materials must not be closer than 10cm to the smoke channel, 3cm to the kitchen fan channel, right next to regular ventilation according to the chimney sweep.
I don't always think metal materials are better as they conduct heat into combustible materials more effectively.

The best course of action is to call your chimney sweep, different chimney districts sometimes interpret differently.
