I am in the process of designing an extension to my house. I will have vertical double exterior paneling, and in addition, the upper floor's exterior paneling overlaps the lower floor's exterior paneling.

How should I design the load-bearing stud construction at the transition between the floors? I attach an image of what I am thinking. Am I on the right track?

That looks good.
However, it might be a bit difficult to understand the picture...

One alternative is perhaps to align the upper floor's panel with the lower floor's with a drip plate in between.
And make the upper framing the same dimension as the lower one.
