Basically finished with the retaining walls (in leca which now need to be plastered & painted). I'm thinking of a 'coping' in sheet metal on top. Wondering if anyone knows if there are manufacturers who make 'ready-made' ones that could be self-installed? Checked through Lindab's range and maybe something like in the image would work? (but this one has wrong measurements)
I think you should have a flashing with a drip nose like the one on the left in the picture on both sides of the wall. Take measurements of your wall and visit a sheet metal workshop that can bend your sheets in no time. Then you'll get flashings that fit perfectly.
Thanks! It will be sheet metal work & a drip nose on both sides! Is there anything specific to consider during the installation? Of course, I prefer the fastenings to be hidden. And how do you handle splicing? (the longest wall is 17.5 meters)
I've just sent a request to a nearby sheet metal company. Exciting to see what this could end up costing!!! Maaaany meters.
But do you really need a capping at the top of the wall? The wall is in leca with cast concrete on top. Isn't it enough to just plaster the top side as well and paint???

No, sheet metal capping is a must (you can also use roofing tiles, slate, or similar). I made the mistake of just plastering and painting (also tried a steep slope on the plaster). It lasts a few years, then the paint starts to peel, and then frost damage occurs in the plaster both on the top and sides.
Thanks! Well, of course, we're trying to chase costs. We've built 37 linear meters of retaining walls in varying heights, and it gets expensive because some walls are really high with a lot of casting and reinforcement. The idea was to cover with black metal (as it would nicely match the house, which has a black standing seam metal roof - so roof tiles on the wall are not an option for us, at least).
It was mostly when I got quotes for the railing (which needs to match a French balcony railing and is intended to be in black wrought iron) that the budget started to feel a bit strained... to put it that way. But of course, I still don't want to risk the walls being ruined by frost heave... Black slate might be an alternative of course, but it probably won't be cheaper than the metal covering either, right? How did you solve your covering, Helioz?
Our most urgent problem right now, however, is that the digger who was supposed to come tomorrow morning (and who has previously been 'reliable') has suddenly stopped answering the phone... (This happened once before, then it "messed up with a job") The risk now is that we'll be left with several guys tomorrow to lay steps & paving stones to the landing but no digger for the fill. Ugh, I thought I had learned everything about this during the construction of the house itself...
Digging and shoveling a lot today
