Planning an extension and will replace the existing external wall with an HEA beam. I plan to place the beam on VKR posts. What I am unsure about is how to handle the length of the posts.
The external wall will not be removed until the last stage, and I do not know exactly how long the posts will need to be. At the top, I assume you weld a plate on which the beam then rests. But at the bottom, you must cut on site to get the right length. Do you place the VKR tube directly on the sill or foundation after cutting? Or can you, for example, weld a loose foot with a plate and a piece of smaller dimension VKR that you insert into the bottom end of the post during installation?
