I live in a house from the 60s and need to remove insulation (wood shavings) and an asphalt felt that lies at the bottom towards the ceiling of the floor below.
The issue is that the asphalt felt has started to emit a strong odor and apparently is not very healthy. I intended to do the job from below since the floors are too nice to tear up.
So my question is the following. Does there need to be a vapor barrier or is a simpler underlay felt sufficient instead of the existing asphalt felt?

I've heard that if you have underfloor heating on the second floor and lay a new wooden floor, it might be good to put a vapor barrier above the underfloor heating, followed by foam, cork, or the like, then the new floor. This is really against all principles, but after a long talk with the floor supplier, this was apparently recommended. But now you're talking about what's supposed to hold the insulation back, and then wind cloth is probably the most suitable...
