Not sure if this is the right forum section for this post, hope it is.
I've felled several oaks on my property and saved some of the trunks that I thought must have a value greater than firewood, nice without knots. Now I have 11 logs saved in lengths between 3-4 meters. I started thinking that it might be better to bring in a mobile sawmill and cut them into lumber to keep for myself, instead of buying lumber at the lumberyard for my garden projects like arbors, trellises, pergolas, fences, etc. I'm thinking the cost of the saw is cheaper than the lumber at the yard if I'm going to buy it. I don't know how hard oak is to sell and what you would get paid for it if so? What do you think, is it a wise idea? How soon can the lumber be used in the garden if so, and how should it dry? Does it need to be indoors or can you dry it outdoors under a tarp? Anything I need to consider when cutting it up?
