Hi,

I have read through quite a few threads about trellises and whether they are load-bearing. In most cases, the answer is no, but I haven't seen a staircase like mine. The trellis connects the "lower" "part" of the stairs with the upper. The slats are connected at the top by the board as shown in image 2. I cannot see that the upper part of the staircase is attached to the upper floor in any way. Instead, the staircase is mounted on the wall all the way up.

What do you think, is it safe to remove the trellis?

I simply called the carpenter who installed it 10 years ago and got confirmation that it is self-supporting!
