Currently renovating a turn-of-the-century house that has undergone some modernizations over the years, most recently in the 80s. The plan is to restore parts of the turn-of-the-century charm and reintroduce some craftsmanship flair in the house in the form of traditional woodwork.

However, I've discovered that it's easier said than done to find moldings of turn-of-the-century style in the Stockholm area. I’m looking for trims and baseboards approximately 120mm wide, among other things. It seems possible to get moldings via home delivery from various planing mills around the country. However, the high shipping cost eats up much of the budget, especially if, like me, you haven't planned to figure out exactly how much molding of all different kinds you need for the whole house and order everything at once, but instead shop in phases as the need arises.

Is there really no planing mill near Stockholm where private individuals can go and buy moldings over the counter? Panel & List on Tomtebogatan within the city has options, but their price level is more suitable for complementing rather than relisting an entire house.

I would gladly welcome tips on where to buy turn-of-the-century style moldings in the Stockholm area, preferably directly from a planing mill.

Is what is available at the hardware stores not sufficient, or are you looking for a specific profile or timber quality?

Have not found allmogefoder and bases in widths of 120mm in regular hardware stores. Have you?

I'm looking for this style:
Cross-section diagram of a molding profile, measuring 120mm in width and 22mm in height, featuring a decorative edge style.

Ekesiiö in Bromma had very old profiles. However, they have been purchased by Beijer, I don't know what they have left today.

Thanks for the tips, I'll take a closer look at them. Just Bauhaus is probably out since they only have trim and not baseboards in the right width.

Ekesiöö, now Beijer, I'll have to swing by and check what they have on the shelf. Unfortunately, I think they have completely switched to Beijer's assortment.

If you're a little smart, you check what suppliers they have. Bauhaus, for example, uses Moelven, Woody and XL-bygg use EHL prolist. Then you check the respective supplier's websites, for example:
https://www.moelven.com/se/se/tra-inomhus/lister/
https://www.ehlprolist.se/sortiment/

When you've found what you want and have the article number, etc., you just call/email the nearest building trade and ask them to order it for you. It's particularly not a problem with those builders' merchants who work with professional customers. If you're ordering larger volumes, you can also ask for a good discount.

Sekelskifte.se would have been great but they don't stock moldings; instead, they deliver via mail order. However, they may have smaller batches in-store if you're lucky, they state.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm doing right now.

No planing mills in the Stockholm area otherwise?

Hi! Down here in Sörmland there are a bunch of woodworking shops that produce their own baseboards/moldings in widths from 70 mm up to 145 mm. I buy a lot of my moldings at Bettna Såg in Bettna (between Nyköping and Katrineholm). It's about 1.5 hours from Stockholm but you quickly earn back that cost. Go to Bettnasag.se and look at "Profiles". They have everything in different lengths.

  • Close-up of wooden molding pieces labeled "Foder Skenala" and "Foder Ålspånga," both measuring 21x95, highlighting their profile shapes and textures.
It is exactly a store like Bettna I'm looking for. No exorbitant prices and well-sorted. It remains to be seen if anyone has tips on a place that is closer than 10 miles from me, otherwise it might be a trip there.
