It has become popular on the other side to cast slabs and similar things with a ready-mixed concrete mix that you pour out dry in the mold and then water it. Has anyone tried this and what experiences do you have? I'm a bit tempted myself since I have some casting projects underway (stepping stones in the pathway and a washing slab for the lawnmower). Which concrete have you used if you have done something like this?

The neighbor has cast a lot of posts with that, can't say I'm super impressed with the result.. then again, he's a j-a klåpare, so maybe he did it wrong....
Yes, I get the impression that you shouldn't cast it too thick. but it's not relevant when making stepping stones and similarDan_Johansson said:
I made the floor in my garage, which previously consisted of loose soil with some planks and boards loosely laid on top, the mice dug tunnels in the soil/sand and had a party in the garage.
I used Byggmax finbetong basic.
I just threw out the concrete, smoothed it out a bit loosely, and used a roller to make the surface a little more even.
I "cast" maybe 35-45 mm thick directly on lightly compacted dirt floor.
The result was completely acceptable and it was cheap.
