Here's what my hallway looks like. I'm working on exposing a brick wall. The problem is that they've embedded an old pipe into the wall about 15 cm from the edge, which ruins a lot. I need to have my new light switch roughly in the same spot as the old one. I've considered "covering" the track with a plasterboard or similar (from top to bottom, of course), but the question is how neat it will look?
Does anyone have suggestions on how I should do it? Alternatively, I could remove all the old bricks and replace them with new ones, though I should expect some color variation in the bricks (1940s house).
You should chip away the remaining plaster on the wall and varnish the brick wall to bind the dust.
Leave the milled groove as it is - it's patina - and the bare varnished brick wall highlights a history in the house and that's the point of living in an old house.
You should simply highlight the old features in the house!
If you tear up some floor mats, you're likely to find a super nice solid wood floor, which someone in the 70s attacked with a linoleum mat.
