I pondered for quite a while on how to make the railing on our porch and finally came up with this simple solution. The advantage is that it can easily be disassembled when it needs to be painted, and I'm extremely happy about this as it's tedious to paint railings...

The mounting consists of four small hooks that the railing hangs on. I was a bit worried it wouldn't hold but it's stable!

I came up with the exact same solution ten years ago when I built my dad's porch bridge and have adopted this for my own bridge. I can attest that it has worked very well. Very stable and easy to take apart with a little help from a crowbar.

My blocks are small pieces of oak that are urethane-glued and countersunk screwed to the posts. I also have woodworking on top that is attached in the same way.
