I'm considering expanding. It's a single-story Älvsbyhus of 120 sqm, and the idea is to extend the living room in an L-shape. The width of the living room is 5m, and I was thinking of extending it by 4.2m. Now to my thoughts.
1. What kind of foundation should one have? The house currently stands on a crawl space foundation, can I also build the extension on such a foundation? I buy timber cheaply since I work in the sawmill industry.
2. The wall I need to remove to open up the living room is load-bearing, so I guess I need to replace it with a glued laminated beam; can I do this after the extension itself is complete?
3. I would also like to have a cathedral ceiling in the extension, does this mean a lot more work/cost?
4. So, to the roof. Are there any general rules for things like roof slope? The slope of the house is 27 degrees; should I have this on the extension as well?
Then I also wonder where on the house roof I should join the new roof, up at the ridge or a bit down?
All tips are gratefully received.
