Anyone have any good tips and tricks on how to best drill straight (horizontally and surely in other directions too) through a wall? I'm preparing for running heating pipes through interior walls. The walls consist of fairly solid wooden beams with plaster layers of 4-5 cm on each side. Of course, I want the drill holes to have the same height on the exit side as the entry side and that the distance from the wall is the same. It might not be a problem, but anyone who's done it before is welcome to enlighten me about it 
If you have a reasonable ability to measure where the drill holes should be on both sides, I usually drill as straight as I can halfway in with a smaller diameter drill. After that, it's usually possible to meet roughly in the middle to get a straight pilot hole where you can then use the correct drill diameter. It usually turns out quite well!
You can also take a piece of timber and drill a pilot hole with the correct drill diameter using, for example, a column drill. If you have a flat surface to work on, you have a good drilling template there!

That idea with the drill template was a good one. The problem, one of them, is the plaster on the wall which tends to come off as soon as you drill into it. Old dry plaster. But it might work with a template that covers a larger area.

Rent a core drill with a stand.
There are drills from 20-400mm. There are drills with stands that you brace between floor/ceiling.
You can either rent from one of the big companies like Cramo/Ramirent, or check if any of the Hyrex members offer rentals where you live.

I used a long drill bit, rotary laser, and angle square to get both directions right when I pre-drilled for screw anchors for a wall-mounted toilet recently.
If you have two lasers, it becomes even easier as you can get a line on the side of the drill and one on the top or underside of the drill.
