We recently bought a house where the basement stairs are open and have a trellis around them that goes from floor to ceiling. The spacing between the trellis is too large, so it's no problem for a small child to fit through. We have a little one at home, so it feels like we should do something about this. We don't plan to "remodel" the trellis. Do you have any tips on how to childproof it in a somewhat stylish way?

Stylish is perhaps questionable, but a large piece of plexiglass that you screw on?

Attach a durable fabric to the bottom meter? Easy to remove when the little one has grown a bit...
