Anyone who has tinkered a bit with the plumbing installations in the house has surely noticed that copper pipes have become as expensive as drugs lately. However, this is not only unfortunate. The scrap value of copper has also soared. Today, I got 42 SEK per kg of pure copper. Altogether, I had 50kg of copper scrap in the house and an additional 35kg of brass/faucets. A trip to the scrap yard thus made me about 2800 SEK richer!
Unfortunately, my wife has already booked a hotel weekend that will surely eat up this money, but it can at least help reduce the losses...

Before you get started, make sure you can get rid of that copper at the scrap yard. There are strict rules about how and what you can hand in, precisely to prevent theft (of cables).Haagbard said:
Cables where the insulation has been burned off are not accepted at all. If you have a larger quantity of cable or a cable that you shouldn't have as a private person, you should be able to prove how you acquired it. 100 kg is probably considered "household waste," and then it's not a problem, but it doesn't hurt to check in advance, stripping is boring.....
Also, keep in mind that the price varies between different scrap yards. Stena Gotthard seems to pay the worst of all.
Yeah, I've actually thought a bit along those lines, there have been major problems here with copper thefts too, but now theft of airbags seems to be the new breadwinner for the thieving gang here :-?MathiasS said:Before you start, make sure to get rid of that copper at the scrap yard. But well, somehow it has to be sold... the cable ended up "in the open" when I tore down a small outhouse last summer.
...and when I think about it, a relative of mine works at a metal scrap yard
