Timber season and house order?

Hello Byggahusforum! I am going to order a house. I am waiting for building permits and a start notice, which will probably come sometime this fall, 2013. And I'll get started on the house foundation before the frost. In that case, I can order the house from the factory, say in January, 2014. Now I wonder what quality I can expect in the construction timber, considering the season? I believe I can vouch for the house factory. They strap the materials and cover them with tarpaulin as soon as they're ready. But what happens at the sawmill before that? Will the timber be attacked by pests and rot if I wait that long? And will only the B-grade sorting be left by then? And is it better to wait to place the order until next spring when the new season starts? Best regards, PerOF

You don't need to worry about the timber quality. Nowadays, all timber should be graded. Additionally, there's no difference with the seasons.

This was news to me, that there are seasons for timber (like with strawberries and potatoes?).

The spruces are probably 50 - 100 years old when harvested.
What difference would it make what time of year they are harvested?

It makes a huge difference. Obviously, much more moisture in them during the summer.

The log may differ, but the wood is dried to the same level regardless of the season.

The wetter log might produce timber that tends to warp more?

I have no idea, just a thought...
