Hello!
I'm looking to set up wooden lighting poles, that is, a completely standalone pole outdoors, attached to a buried footing (like a pergola or carport, for example). I have some thoughts on how to do this and what's possible...
They don't need to be very heavy-duty since the pole will only carry itself, a lamp weighing a maximum of about 10 kg, and possibly wind load. What dimensions would be suitable? The height of the pole should preferably be around 6 meters, but possibly 4 meters would work (I'm checking fixtures now). I assume it's not easy (or cheap) with such long pole lengths, what options are there? I'm obviously looking for a reasonably affordable solution...
I'm considering building the pole myself, got a tip in another thread about putting together beams into a pole, is that a possible route? What should be considered if so?
Grateful for any tips!

PS: I have an earlier thread about electricity in wooden poles (under the electrical forum) DS
