I'm going to renovate a shower room in the basement of a house built in '63, there were tiles on the plastered wall. When I chipped off the tiles, the plaster came off in some places. Can I knock down all the plaster to get a smooth wall or should I fill in plaster where it has come off? The plaster is or has been on some kind of lightweight concrete blocks.

Is it an interior wall?
If so, I would knock down all the plaster and then attach moisture-resistant boards to make it smooth and even.
For an exterior wall, I would replaster after scraping/knocking off everything loose.

These are interior walls in the basement.
