Hello!
I am planning to install a soapstone stove against a concrete wall in the basement. As far as I know, concrete is not considered combustible, which means the stove will be about 5 cm from the wall. (It has a small base that protrudes at the back)
I was thinking of putting some type of tile on the wall behind and on the floor under the stove, preferably something slate-like.
Do you think it will withstand the heat exchanges? Is there anything specific to consider when tiling?

Hello!
Why not place soapstone tiles both in front and on the wall?
We did that and are very satisfied.
Looks nice against your soapstone stove!

Jan

I would like to have it, but I have believed that it is too expensive without even checking the price.
What does it cost? Where can one buy it? Is it perhaps available in Poland? (I will go there on Sunday...)

Hello again!
We bought a Nunnauuni. Received a quote that included everything, but I think the soapstone tiles for the floor and wall cost about 3,000. So not a big expense in the grand scheme of things and considering that they should last as long as I live....and a bit longer, one would think!
Basically, I believe one can say that installing them is pretty much like laying tiles or setting tiles. In short, I recommend it!
Good luck!

I have a soapstone stove myself...would never put soapstone on the floor. Soapstone is so soft that it can't withstand anything. There are even marks from, as we have done, putting the ash rake on the soapstone stove ledge...so now we have stopped doing that.
Agree. Täljsten is very delicate. On the wall, however, it can look nice. I would still prefer dark slate in contrast to the täljsten stove.
Don't forget to check with the chimney sweep if the distance to the wall is OK. If you have a wooden stud in the concrete wall, it might become a problem during the inspection.
