Hello

I have a question that I'm not quite clear on. I'm in the process of building a podium for a fireplace where both the top and the front of the podium will be tiled, the top with tiles and the front with mosaic. But how do I create a nice transition between the two?

A regular tile trim is usually plastic (most of the time), but I think its exposed position in this construction might need to be more impact-resistant? Or does it work fine anyway? The trim will essentially become a "threshold" since you will be able to step up onto the podium next to the fireplace. The tiles are 16mm thick, and most common tile trims aren't that high?

Another option I've considered is a regular L-shaped aluminum trim, which would be glued on the outside of the tiles. But will it look nice?

I envisioned a D-shaped trim made of ceramic material, but those seem not so easy to find?

Which one is best? Thoughts, opinions, and experiences are greatly appreciated!

No prices? No retailers? Did you purchase directly from the site?

15mm seems common and even though it might be possible to manage with 16mm tiles, it feels like if you're going to order that way, it should be spot on; otherwise, you might as well cobble together something mediocre on your own.

I'm considering placing a row of mosaic as a "list" (finish), possibly with a metal rail as a "form" to get everything as straight as possible. If the mosaic tiles are a bit too high for the tiles, one idea is to set them at a slight angle, and in this way also get a slight "rounding" of the podium edge. I'm going to look into this over the Christmas break. Maybe it could turn out really well?
