Hello!

I'm renovating and have removed an old door frame. The result is a hole in the floor plus some other issues like different baseboards in the living room and hallway. Another problem is that the wall is not perfect all the way down, so I need some type of molding here to hide this (see image).
How can this be solved in a neat way with a nice transition between the moldings in the hallway and living room, etc.?
Any tips for a threshold solution?

I don't want to spend too much time or money on it but still want it to look reasonably nice.

  • Wall corner with removed door frame, exposing unfinished trim and gap in light wooden floor. Ladder in background. Renovation context with focus on transition.
  • Gap in flooring where old door frame was removed, showing unfinished section between hardwood and laminate floors, with misaligned baseboards.
  • Wall with missing door frame reveals uneven flooring and gaps near molding, highlighting renovation challenges for smooth transitions between living room and hallway.
  • Damaged wall and floor area after door frame removal, showing uneven edges and mismatched skirting boards in a renovation project.

A threshold (like a wide strip) in the same material as the highest floor, extending from the edge of that floor over the other a bit. End both baseboards in their respective rooms and place a simple, straight, low baseboard in the actual opening, painted white (or the same color as the wall if it isn't white).

Thanks for the tip, no idea what flooring has been laid as it was done before I moved in so it might be difficult to find the same one, but I'll figure it out somehow. A thin little strip painted white was a very good tip, thank you for that.

The darker one looks like oak parquet, and oak is the most common type of wood in thresholds, so any construction retailer should have one. The lighter one resembles one of our cheaper laminate floors in birch and should not be impossible to find either.
I'm thinking of a threshold that is flat without any level differences, like any other plank.

Okay, I will go out to a hardware store and see if I can find something suitable.

It would be interesting to see the result if you stay in the house?
