My floor joists (2" 8") have sunk, twisted, or something. I notice that I have dips between the supports (girder wall and foundation wall). The floor joists have been exposed to some moisture from underneath (crawl space) but there is no significant rot. I have checked with a Morakniv at the most affected areas on the subfloor. The interior walls in the house rest on the floorboard (22 mm), so removing them to straighten the joists is not possible.
I have acquired a straightedge of 4000mm to get a better picture of exactly how the dips look.
In the dips I've measured so far, the depth is at most 10mm over the supports (320 cm).
I am planning to lay down laminate or vinyl click flooring soon. What dips can be tolerated? Can I eliminate the dips with hardboard 3x3mm and how should I go about doing that easily? Finally, after I've fixed the dips, I will lay down a 12mm chipboard.
Would it be possible to use self-leveling compound on those kinds of dips?
I don't want to apply more than necessary, and in some places, the layer will only be 1mm. Won't it crack when the house shifts or when you walk on such a thin layer?
