Temporary walls with expandable studs?
Hello everyone,
I seem to recall reading somewhere about studs that can be tensioned between the ceiling and floor to build a room without damaging the floor and ceiling with screwed-in studs. After a few years, when you want to remove the room again, it can be easily done by dismantling the walls and snapping the studs loose.
Is this a concept someone recognizes and can tip me off about where to read more? Like a supplier's website. Has anyone built with this technique and can share their experiences?
Thanks
Stefan

If you have a ceiling and floor that can withstand pressure, then it's just a matter of building with studs that are a bit too long so that you have to press them into place between the ceiling and floor stud. If you can then position at least one side against a wall, you can screw that stud into the wall. I guess it would be easiest to clamp the wooden stud as it feels more stable before the drywall is in place.
Incidentally, I lived in an apartment many years ago where almost all the walls could be moved because they were pressed between the ceiling and floor with screws up towards the ceiling.
