temporary solution in laundry room with old plaster walls

Currently renovating the house.

In the basement, I'm thinking of setting up a temporary laundry room as I don't have time to prioritize this. The idea was to slap on some white paint to freshen things up a bit. I poked at the plaster, and 3 hours later almost all the plaster is gone, it was very loose...

The question now is if it's okay to paint over this and later re-plaster the walls? It would be a bit of a hassle to put in a lot of effort later to remove the paint. I've bought white silicate paint for the purpose (and some sort of "binder" to apply first).

The alternative is to do nothing, but there's a lot coming off the walls, so that's not very popular...

Alternative 3.... do the walls correctly from the start but... I don't really have time for that...

If it crumbles from the walls, you have to do something about it sooner or later. You can paint now so it stops crumbling, but that doesn't mean the substrate provides enough grip for a new layer of plaster eventually. But my amateur guess is that it's perfectly fine to plaster on a silicate-painted solid surface.

Okay, I'm planning to remove as much loose material as possible and then just paint over it... at some point, you just have to stop, but as it is now, it's easy to remove more debris.

I would have done that, except that before I really replastered, I would have gone over the wall again with the appropriate tool and scraped off loose paint and bös.

I would not spend any time painting the laundry room at all. Instead, focus on the other renovation. Then do the laundry room when the time comes.

If you are going to redo the walls in a year or whenever it becomes relevant, it's completely wasted, in my humble opinion.

Saw in another thread that it's apparently a bad idea to polish something painted with silicate paint.
