Now I'm going to apply the last layer of plaster that binds the old and the new together. The surface is fairly even but not smooth.

1. Spray water
2. Throw on plaster
3. Smooth out with the trowel

That's about as much as I know. Anything special I should think about? :)

A fireplace renovation in progress with plastered area, tape, and tools like a hammer. The surface is uneven, awaiting the final plaster layer.

It is the 3an that is difficult if you don't know. Not too early so it goes with it and not too late so it's too dry.

If we talk about minutes between thumb and forefinger? The layer will be about 5-10mm.

It completely depends on how the surface absorbs. And if it absorbs evenly across the entire area, it looks like you have different mortar there.

Well, it's old from the 60s on top and new underneath. It is what it is. Freshly polished, half burnt :P

Damn, what a shitty job/craft this was :p It was very difficult to say the least, to put it mildly.

Fireplace renovation in progress, with yellow masking tape around brick and concrete surface showing signs of recent construction work.
