Tearing up vinyl flooring in the kitchen, unsure if the adhesive is hazardous
Going to tear out the plastic carpet.
It's glued with a gray adhesive that resembles filler but smells slightly like glue, porous like filler.
The house was built in 1989.
Should I conduct an asbestos test, or can I just scrape off the carpet and the adhesive?
Grateful for advice on how I should proceed.

Ok thanks for the info, then there's probably no danger.
Is it common to glue vinyl flooring with different adhesives?
I have a more whitish glue in the bedrooms, kind of like wood glue.
The one in the kitchen is more like putty.

It may have been done at different times or by someone following the "use what you have..." approach.
It can also depend on the type of carpet and what it requires.
So yes, it's quite common for there to be different adhesives in different rooms/carpets.
