Lucky that there are others who are MORE attentive than I apparently was.
 
how does it work with a hammer drill really... do you start in the middle of the tile or where do you attack the tile itself? I have tried a bit with a hammer + chisel but it often ends with the drywall behind giving way.. is it always like this?
 
The key is to start somewhere, then work from the outer edge towards the center. The wider the chisel, the lesser the risk of damage to the wall behind.
