Hello. I am going to install a cassette in our fireplace. To fit it properly, I would need to take down a brick wall.

Now I wonder, can you do that? It is not load-bearing since it doesn’t go all the way up. What I am wondering is how do you know if the stone behind is fireproof?

I can't see any obstacles to taking down that section of the wall. Whether the brick behind it is fire-resistant or not doesn't matter if you're going to install a cassette there.
 
Just talked to the company that's going to do the job, and they said the same thing. I'm a bit paranoid and don't really trust the word of craftsmen. But I think it seems fine.
