I am going to tear out the kitchen and between the kitchen and the living room stands our chimney. We currently have no stove but plan to install some form of wood-burning stove. The chimney sweep has inspected it and we were informed that the most suitable channel must be either recast or fitted with a liner. I am now designing the kitchen, and against the chimney, three tall cabinets with a fridge, freezer, and oven/microwave will be placed. It is quite tight and I need to get as close to the chimney as possible. What are my options if I want to place cabinets against the chimney and potentially install a stove that uses the chimney?

My first thought was to clad the chimney with minerit. But at the same time, I recall that there should be a space between the chimney and adjacent materials. Any tips or advice?

Minerit should work, but call the person who will be inspecting to find out what they think - if you are going to have an inspection... I placed metal studs against the chimney breast (I believe they were 75 mm) and then OSB/gypsum.
Don't forget to take pictures if you cover it up!
