Hello.

I am helping a close friend with a garage renovation. It is a garage from the 70s, approximately 6x10m. Three walls are made of blåbetong and one is made of wood. It has a mono-pitched roof with a standing seam metal roof. Unfortunately, I do not know the pitch of the roof. The roof trusses are about 6m and rest on the wooden wall where there is also a garage door.

My friend, without much consideration, has bought a garage door that is 5m wide and 2.1m high. This will replace the existing 2.5m door.

Now to my concern. I need to support the wall on which the roof trusses rest with a beam. Glulam doesn't fit. There will be 3 roof trusses with a 1.2m center-to-center spacing that will rest on the beam.

What kind of beam do I need for this? I have been suggested a 160x160 H-beam, but it feels insufficient...

It leans towards a HEA 180 but I would probably want to see a floor plan first before I say anything more definite.

Unfortunately, there are not many drawings, the house is from the early 1900s and the garage was probably built by some DIY enthusiast. Is there anything specific you need?

Make your own simple sketch showing the floor dimensions and the intended location of the gate. That's enough.
