Hi, I'm considering installing a fireplace but the placement means the chimney will go through the ridge beam.

Any tips on that? My thought is to reinforce between the two nearest rafters, as high up as possible, and then cut the ridge?

Best regards, E

If it truly is a ridge beam, it carries between its endpoints, and intervening "rafters" rest on the beam.

That is, in that case, it is not enough to reinforce between 2 rafters; more likely, you need to install 2 new beams across the entire span.

You should hire a structural engineer to calculate how the reinforcement should be designed.

hmm so it's a beam that rests on the roof trusses, I assume it mostly provides lateral stability for the trusses. It rests on about 10 trusses.
