Hello!

We recently moved into a house from '52 where the staircase to the upper floor is missing a handrail. Since we have small children, it feels important to install something to prevent slipping/falling risks.

The tricky part is that the walls are made of concrete hollow blocks, and I don't know what to use for fastening to get the handrail to stay up over time.

Other mounted items like the TV and mirror I have managed to attach securely with facade plugs as shown in the picture. The difference is, however, that the handrail is subjected to daily and varying loads, which I guess will "wear" on the concrete.

The handrail is about 3.5 m, and there will be 5 wall brackets.

Does anyone have experience with this material and a qualified guess on how to proceed?

Thanks for the great answer! I've completely overlooked these in my search on Google. I looked at spacer tubes for further reinforcement, and according to the description, you should "cut to the desired length."

Maybe a silly question, but is there anything to consider or base it on to know what the right length is? I assume the goal is for the rubber expander to attach to a layer in the hollow block that is further back. Should you then just drill and push the rubber expander with the spacer tube as far as it will go?

What kind of grip do you have?

It is not decided yet, but I'm thinking of something like the picture. The left one has a central screw and the right one has three pre-drilled holes. However, I suspect it will be difficult to drill three holes in such a small area in concrete hollow blocks.

  • Black wall bracket with center screw on left, silver wall bracket with three pre-drilled holes on right. Both priced at 60,00 kr.

Yes, you can use that with a center screw.
