I wonder how long light hand filler lasts? Does it have a best before date?

It usually says on the can, at least on large buckets. My opened bucket had molded over the winter, so I ended up buying a new one....

Perhaps one should mix in a tablespoon/teaspoon, boracol in the bucket before putting it away ...
But of course, then you'll probably need to do the spackling with a full mask afterward ... ;)

I have had a bucket that lasted a long time, became a bit "stickier," but then added some water for the right consistency again:o This was some type of gypsum filler and whether you're supposed to do that, I don't know, but it worked fine!

I think I've read 1 year somewhere. However, I've used it longer than that.

put "gladpack" over the surface of a bucket of filler if it's going to stand for months, so the filler stays better, just smooth the surface and put the "gladpack" on.
Moldy or dried is usually my rule for when to throw it away, I don't care about the expiration date on the jar.

With some risk of setting a record for old threads, but it seems silly to start a new one.

I am going to plaster a smaller wall, about 5 square meters. I had a bucket of plaster left in the garage from when it was built. I opened it earlier and it was a bit layered on the surface, like all paint becomes when it has been standing for a while. I used a spatula to stir it.

The plaster feels good in consistency and behaves like any other plaster. However, it is about 5 years old.

If it looks good and feels good, is there a risk that something could go wrong? Can plaster age in other ways?

The bucket has been in the garage, about 8-12 degrees year round.

Regards

If it's 5 years old, I wouldn't use it, because spackel doesn't cost that much and if you fail, for example, it doesn't dry, it's quite a lot of work to restore...

I used old spackel once, but not again... It dried and developed lots of cracks, even though it felt fine when I applied it.

You have convinced me, the spackel will go to the dump and I'll buy new! 👍

Thanks for the quick replies!
