It will probably not be relevant for me until autumn. I think the floor is called checker stud and not directly cheap. I think gray will be better than black. See link to pdf: [link]
Yes, certainly expensive. Please update when/if you manage to do it. :strong:

Just made the same mistake with a soft plywood. I've applied a hardened masonite that I replace about every three years depending on how rough I've been. Cheap and easy. Attached with double-sided tape, works perfectly.

Seems like that's what I will end up doing too... Thanks for the feedback.

Small update:

Today I have acquired a couple of oil-hardened MDF boards. They will surely be a good start at least. If they wear out too quickly, I can always replace them with sheet metal later.

Thank you all for your input.

PS. Damn, they smell bad... Hopefully, they will lose the smell before too long.

I'm also working on a workbench and considering the surface finish.

I
've watched Bourbon Moth Woodworking on YouTube and he uses "laminate". But what is that in Swedish and where can you find something like that to buy?

Searching for laminat + benchtop doesn't really give the right search results

It would be fun to see pictures of how it turned out. 😃
