I have torn down a load-bearing wall between the house gable and the chimney and will install a glulam beam (90x225). The house gable consists of standing planks, so I thought of cutting a hole and inserting the glulam beam, also nailing a 45x95 stud standing flat against the wall, so that side feels okay. Right?

At the chimney, there is a brick wall extending about 50 cm, and I have removed the top two rows of bricks to lay the beam on. The beam can rest on the entire 50 cm that the wall extends out. One of the rafters I have temporarily supported previously rested here, perpendicular, of course. The beam is 225 high, and between the bricks and the rafter, there is about 255.

And now to the question... What should be placed in between? About 3 cm is missing. Should I saw some wood pieces, or is it enough to just throw in some mortar? I'm going to redo some of the stones that were loose anyway.

Wood wedges to give it some tension and then fill with mortar.
