Right now, there is painted woven wallpaper on plaster that I consider to be too dense (it's slightly blackened in a few places), so I will remove it. The problem is that the plaster underneath is very "powdery," and the first layer of paint before the woven wallpaper was applied comes off when I remove the wallpaper, making the wall look like a map with patches where the paint detaches from the plaster! I initially thought of tiling halfway up, but I don't know if the plaster can support the tiles. Can I treat the plaster, or do I need to install wall panels of some sort? I don't want to frame and adjust as every mm2 is valuable in the small garage! Grateful for tips! Best regards, Pelle

If the plaster sits properly, it can probably support a half-tiled wall. I did it that way in my basement. Otherwise, you might have to tidy it up by replastering the wall.
