Hello,
We are repainting the moldings, and the previous owner did a less than neat "siliconizing" at the bottom. Okay - but not _pretty_.
Now it will be replaced in a nicer way. The best, as I've done in previous houses, is ACRYLIC SEALANT that sits neatly in the gap and is then painted over. However, there is too little sealant to have sufficient "flex," so it can easily crack.
Now it's tile and likely less movement. Essve's acrylic has received good, top ratings in this context. Both for age & flex. Maybe it's the best?
Otherwise, there is new silicone sealant. But that's disliked, especially when repainting... Removing silicone involves sanding down to the wood...
A trim piece doesn't feel right. Partly due to appearance, then it still can't follow the (small) variations in the tile.
The picture is probably the worst spot, a couple of mm.
The best would be to remove the lining and mount it tightly to the floor instead so you don't have to use caulk.
If you are going to use caulk, I would just apply a tape very close to the lining and then use regular white latex caulk. Not silicone. I usually use Alcro's caulk but I don't have the impression that there's such a big difference between caulks of the same type. Tec7 is often portrayed as some miracle cure for everything, but I'm not sure if I'm that impressed by it...
Yep, I'm on the Latex track, strengthened by your feedback. A little worried about remaining silicone residues on tiles, have managed to remove most of it with hard work. Probably need to use silicone remover and try to get rid of any (likely) residues. Thanks!
