I am planning to make a small "hat" to sit above a door. Imagine a regular entrance canopy like the image, but only sticking out about 20 cm from the wall, and being self-supporting. More of a hint than a roof actually.
Well, I was thinking of framing 145x45 (possibly 195x45) on the wall, standing. That is, the short side against the wall. If nailed together properly, it should be sturdy. But I wonder, how do I attach it to the wall? It's three-inch planks in the wall with paneling without an air gap. I would prefer not to cut away the paneling, in case one changes their mind and wants a flat roof.
Is it possible to just use a really long screw through the framing, or is there a smarter way?
