strong smell in bathroom

Hello,

we have a house from 1974 with an apparently fresh and relatively newly renovated bathroom. Despite this, there is a slightly pungent, almost chemical smell. It has become more noticeable since we replaced the windows. There isn't much water used in the bathroom, as we shower in the other bathroom. Does anyone have tips on what it could be? My guess would be something in the materials of the construction itself rather than water damage.

Not stomach flu in the family? It can give a slightly sharp almost chemical smell in the bathroom.

Hi,

the fact that the smell has rather increased when we haven't used the bathroom would suggest a water trap? Can it smell like that? We have not "lived" in the house for about 4 months and have only used the bathtub on a few occasions. IF it is the water trap, it should smell from the bathtub drain, right?

The house is built with a basement that is constructed with siporex from a ground slab. The second floor is "raised," meaning the foundation is high, so I don't think there is a problem with the sills, but you never know.

Is it not as simple as a dried-out P-trap?

Good first step. Add water to the drain and wait a day to see. Also, check before to make sure nothing is in there molding. Then rinse thoroughly.

Also flush in the sink and in the overflow hole (have experienced that they have their own water trap, took a while before we found out where the smell came from )
